Takeaways from a $2,500 OF livestream

I spent about 2 years wondering, “are OF livestreams worth it?” I had no clue. I had major fears that no matter how good the marketing was, people may not be able to (or even want to) show up at a very specific time to enjoy a livestream. I also wasn’t sure if guys would be weird about seeing each other in the chats 👀 would a livestream ruin the gfe vibes?

But, in an effort to continue growing the paid page, this curiosity needed to be satisfied! So, the first livestream happened at the end of 2023 and here’s what happened:

Quick livestream numbers:

% of subscribers who showed up: ~16%

% of viewers who tipped during the livestream: ~15%

Revenue earned from tips and ppvs: ~$2.5k

Not bad for the very first time marketing such a thing 💕 After looking at the livestream analytics, I wanted to see if I could better understand who exactly we’re monetizing when doing livestreams. Is it for longterm fans? New fans?

With that context, I had these questions:

  1. What kind of fans show up to livestreams?

  2. What kind of fan spends money tipping during livestreams?

  3. What kind of fan buys the livestream ppv afterwards?

I love this blog so much that I painstakingly went through EVERY SINGLE USER who attended, tipped, and purchased, and looked at their subscription length. Yes, I have carpel tunnel now 🥲 This project made me stop using my apple track pad and now I have an ✨ergonomic✨ mouse.

Here were my findings:

  • The average subscription length for viewers, tippers, and ppv buyers are all quite high (as in: 4 months, 5 months, and 6 months respectively).

  • Livestream attendees are a mix of new fans and older fans — but 85% of people did not tip. Of the 15% who did tip, their average subscription length was 5 months.

  • Revenue in the form of livestream tips and active subs buying the livestream ppvs, came mostly from long term fans, not new fans.

Let me break down the analytics for you below 🔍

Livestream viewers:

Average subscription length: 4 months

Livestream tippers:

Average subscription length: 5 months

Livestream ppv buyers (active subs):

Average subscription length: 6 months

Livestream ppv buyers (expired subs):

Average subscription length: 3 months

Concluding thoughts about livestreams

Are they worth it? In my opinion, 100% yes. However! As of right now, it doesn’t seem like a good way to monetize new fans. Instead, this seems like a great way to give longterm fans something fun to look forward to, and an opportunity to be generous.

Is it something I think will be a part of the monthly rotation? Absolutely 💕 I’m excited to see what optimizations can be done to make livestreams an even better roi.

Good luck out there :)

xoxo Kelly
